Little Tale:Oh, it’s you ! You really gave me a good scare.
Joe: Aha! But you are not scared banging up a lamppost, are you?
Little Tale: Hey, don’t always have it hang around!
It was an embarrassing event that happened more than 2 years ago!
Joe: Ok, Ok. Take jokes apart. Have you seen Junior? She said she would meet us here at the school gate.
Little Tale: Look, she is coming.
Junior: Hey, buddy, come on, we’ve got a mission!
Joe: Mission? What mission?
Junior: Look, the custodian of our neighbourhood needs to choose a host family. We're invited to be judges.
Little Tale: A host family! For what?
Junior: For the foreigners who will visit Shanghai during the Expo 2010.
Joe: That sounds great!
Little Tale: Yeah.
Junior: And we'll also help them with the arrangement of the get-together. We'll have a lot of nice performances.
Joe: Wow! How interesting!
Little Tale: But how can we choose a host family?
Junior: Let me tell you.
Scene B: Before the interview
Narrator: They get a decision. Little Tale designs the leaflet. Then they’ll give an interview to all the applicants.
Granny: Since the posters are put up everywhere in our neighbourhood, many neighbours want to apply for the host family. My next door neighbour, Old Zhang, came here yesterday. We're the classmates in the English Evening School. My English is better than his. We took a bet yesterday. Which family will be the host family? Just wait and see. I'm sure I'll win.
Lady: It’s really my day, you know what, the host family or the Expo, I don’t care at all. But I’m really interested in making friends with foreigners, especially males.
They’ll fall in love with me and I’ll marry a rich one. Then I can go abroad to get green pass. Then I’11 be rich enough to realize my American Dream. I’m talented, and I’m beautiful. I deserve a more successful life. I wish I can get good things effortlessly.
Man: Look, as a businessman, I have to work in the office all day. But my dear son is eager to apply for the host family. At first, I thought it was meaningless. Then, I found that all the neighbours are so warm-hearted. So I thought to myself, maybe everyone should do something for the Expo. And now I’m here.
Scene C: At the interview
Narrator: After almost a day's interview, they still haven't got the right person. They're tired and disappointed.
Joe : Oh, my! All our efforts are in vain.
Junior: Don't be depressed. There’re still 3 applicants left. Maybe we'll have some surprise.
Little Tale: Ok. Let's continue.
Joe: NO. 15 please.
Granny: Good afternoon, boys.
Joe: Afternoon, granny.
Little Tale: Would you please introduce yourself briefly?
Granny: Ok. My name is Miao Niuniu. I’m Chinese. I’m studying English in the evening school. I can cook very well.
(bad English)
Junior: Please, Granny. What’s your hobby?
Granny: I like singing and dancing.
(Stand up and sing a song)
Joe: OK, OK, you did very well, thank you. We’ll think it over. You can go now. We’ll call you.
Granny: Ok, call me. Call me.
Joe: Next please.
Lady: Hello, my lovely niece.
Little Tale: Oh, no, my aunt
Lady: Hi, boys.
Students: Hi, aunt Judy.
Joe: What’s your job, aunt Judy?
Lady: Jobs? I’ve tried many jobs such as secretary and typist. But these jobs failed to measure up my expectations. They are all boring, hard and meaningless. It seems that many things come easily for others and hard for me. Why? I must do something. So I come here. Children, my English is good, and I’m the right person.
Junior: Ok, aunt. What’s your hobby?
Lady:: Oh. I’m good at making friends with foreigners.
Little Tale: Oh!
Joe: Aunt Judy, would you please tell us why you want to be the hostess?
Lady: You know, I’m warm-hearted and the most important thing is that I’m charming.
Junior: Tell us something you know about the Expo.
Aunt: Expo? Oh, it’s just… Well… Let me see.

I can show them around Shanghai during my leisure time !
Man: And I’ve got a car.
Junior: Why do you come here?
Man: Frankly speaking, my son is so warm-hearted a volunteer of the Expo. Then I tried to know something about the Expo by myself. And I think we should do something for the Expo. So I come here.
Little Tale: We’re glad to hear that, Uncle. But we’ve still got some questions for you. Will you please be patient enough to answer these questions?
Man: Sure, please go ahead.

Man: It’s a piece of cake. On May the first.
