1  At the airport

Ian            What!? Delayed? They are on strike? So ….. !?
Ok … ok … ok … Now listen, when … can … you … arrive … here?
(disappointed) Well. Fine. But. Bye.

Shirley       Mr. Hughes, what’s up? You look so …

Ian            The airline is on strike.

Shirley       Strike!? How about the new cameras?

Ian            Suspended in de Gaulle.

Shirley      What? Then … how about the cast … the new projectors… the spotlights…

Ian           (says nothing and keeps shaking his head)

All suspended!
(explodes) How can I finish the documentary before the deadline!? (deep sigh) Ah!
(faints)

Shirley       Oh! Mr. Hughes! Hughes! Ian … Ian …!!!

Aaron       Oh my… go and check.
(Aaron, Clyde and Timothy rush to the fainted man.)
What’s going on?

Shirley      He just fainted. He… he was told that the devices he (interrupted) badly needs are all suspended in Paris …

Clyde        (pats Ian) Can you hear me!!??

Timothy   Start CPR!

Aaron       Have to call 120.
(dials his mobile phone)

Shirley      He is a director, and maybe now (interrupted) his documentary cannot be finished before the deadline.

Timothy   Put him on the ground and first open his mouth!

Aaron       It is not important now. We should keep him alive first.
(The urgent call is put through.)
Hey, this is T2 Pudong Airport; there is a man of …

S1 is shown in the form of flash.

2  At the studio

Clyde        Yah! We have a real start of our volunteer work from this moment. And I believe you (to Aaron) will be an excellent director and you (to Timothy) will be a fantastic cameraman!

Aaron       Ok, guys, now listen. Let’s have a brain storming. What occurs to our mind when EXPO is mentioned?

Clyde        The China Pavilion.

Timothy   Ya, the Oriental Crown, and the Expo Boulevard, the wonderful entrance to the park, (interrupted) as ingenious as the crystal pyramid to La Louvre.

Clyde        Ok, ok …
(Clyde’s cell phone rings. Clyde takes a look at it and turns to be tense.)
(to the phone)
您好,您所拨打的电话已关机。Sorry, the subscriber you dialed is power off.
(takes a deep breath) and the UFO-like Performance Center.

Aaron       Well, we can begin with these EXPO sites. And then, we may focus on something with the city culture.

Clyde        City culture? Mmm… xiaolong.

Timothy   You should say small steamed dumpling.

Aaron       Clyde, you are starving?

Clyde        Food is heaven ~~.

Aaron       I know what you mean, well, small steamed dumpling is Ok.

Timothy   I’m afraid we can also interview some citizens for their thoughts of EXPO, and the motto “Better City, Better Life” … well something of that kind.

Aaron       Good, we may include ‘the EXPO sites under construction’, ‘cultural stuff of Shanghai’ and ‘voice of citizens’.

(Timothy’s mobile phone rings.)

Aaron       We shall shoot video clips on DAY1 and DAY 2, and we shall start editing in the afternoon of the second day. Hope we can finish it on DAY 4… Well that’s the rundown.

Clyde        Fantastic!

Timothy   (on the phone) Hello. Ah, Mrs Liu. Yes.
(Clyde turns to be tense and signal Timothy.)

Ah, he was just with us, but now he might go to the toilet. Maybe his cell phone has just run out of power… We are working for a volunteer mission. O… well, I know…

Clyde        Timothy, what’s going on?

Timothy   (to Clyde)你妈妈喊你回家吃饭!

3  At the studio

Clyde        It seems that we’ve done little today.

Aaron       Well, but at least we finally caught the street vendor who sold pirated Haibaos.
Connect it to the computer and start editing right now.

Clyde        It shall be the most exciting documentary we have ever seen!

Timothy   Ya, ya, believe my camera technique.
(Timothy turns to be very happy in pride.)

Aaron       (finds the video clip a little bit strange) Hey, where is the close-up shot of the fake Haibao?

Timothy   Erh? I must have done it! The concrete evidence of the crime!

(finds something wrong with the video clip.) How come?
                 It must be somewhere!

Clyde        Oh, oh the pursuit is really amazing! Your speed is Ok, Timothy, and I bet you shall pass the 50m sprint test next term!

Aaron       We are shooting a documentary instead of a gangster film. But, well, it’s not too bad.

Clyde        That’s true, you see, the cops, and a foreign journalist joined us, exciting!

Aaron       Well, let’s move on.

Timothy   It should be the one with small steamed dumplings.

Clyde        Mmm, that’s what I like.

Aaron       Here it is, the dumpling shop, where we made an introduction to the small steamed dumplings.

Clyde        (sees something…) Ah! Cut it off, cut it off! Timothy >.<|||! I’ve told you to erase this clip!

Timothy   ~~Sorry, I forgot to do so~~

Aaron       It should be yesterday afternoon, right?

Timothy   Ya, he was introducing the small steamed dumpling to the group of foreign visitors.

Aaron       You ask the little girl to be careful about …

Timothy   … possible eruption of the small steamed dumpling, but you yourself was all spilt over…

Clyde        Accident, just an accident!

Aaron       We can leave it for NGs at the end of the documentary.

Timothy   That’s right.

Clyde        Erh~~~ But where is my professional speech on small steamed dumpling, the only one I made longer than Timothy does.

Aaron       A… Ou…

Clyde        Hey! What on earth is going on!?

Aaron       NG scenes only, and no speech.

Timothy   ……

Clyde        Ti-mo-thy~~~ (pretends to beat Timothy)

Aaron       Wait, there must be something wrong.
Look! This is the clip recorded in the EXPO construction site.

Clyde        Yes. Timothy was an interpreter and made things clear for foreign visitors.

Aaron       But look at this … (to Timothy) How can you put you, the cameraman in the video clip?

Clyde        Good interpretation and good guide, Timothy!

Timothy   (realizes something, tries to search his bag for something and finally produces another camera out of the bag) Maybe this can explain what have happened.

Clyde        That’s your camera, and this…

Aaron       … should be someone else’s.

4  At a café

David       You must be the three lovely volunteers, right?

Aaron       Ya. (smiling) Here is your camera. I am Aaron, and this is Clyde and Timothy.

David       Thank you very much.

And, how’s everything going? What about your documentary shooting?

Aaron       Ah, ~~, it’s O.k. Actually, just so so. How do you know that we are filming a documentary?

David       About EXPO, for Ian and Shirley, right?

Clyde        (Surprisingly) Exactly!

David       Actually, I noticed you three at the airport. And I saw you again the next day.
Hope this will help you. (Takes out the memory stick and hands it to Aaron)

Clyde        For us?

David       Yes. For you. I bet what you’ve filmed are all in shivering.

Timothy   A, ya, it was too cold outside.

Aaron       But, … this … inside … we’ve checked it. They are just some clips of what we’ve experienced these days, nothing about the…

David       Ya, your storyAaron, an excellent organizer. Timothy, a fantastic cultural ambassador. And you (to Clyde, smiling), I believe the tourists will remember small steamed dumplings forever as you do.

Clyde        But…

David       (smiling) EXPO sites are great, but for EXPO we have more. I think volunteers are even greater, like you, who act for EXPO.

Aaron       I see… (pause, nodding) I know what to film, how to edit and what documentary we can make. Thank you, Mr. Herbert.

Guys, let’s act right now.

David      Wait a minute. If you want to shoot a video clip about EXPO sites under construction, call me at any time. (produces a name card) David Herbert, Executive Producer of EXPO Performance Center Ceremony.

Aaron       (surprisingly pause and smile) Thank you! Let’s ACT now.

5  At a café

Ian            That’s exactly what I want. The true story of versatile EXPO volunteers.

Shirley      They are really great. A great documentary, A.C.T., right?

Ian            Yah. They act, and we can retire. (smiling)
